NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
