No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
