Omaha Hi/Lo: General Overview

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha hi/low starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The players will have to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where some entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in nearly every poker game.
The lower hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand takes the whole pot.
While it seems complicated at the start, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of play simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an amazing assortment of betting options and because you have numerous players trying for the high hand, along with a few trying for the low hand.
