No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
