Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved gambling on various card games when he was young. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while competing against his dad. He made an effort to get more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.
The actual advancement in his game happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently compete against one another. Howard was able to access a few of the best minds in chess. Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
