Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
